Technical Issues
The server is experiencing some issues and thus we’re experiencing some unscheduled downtime. I’m currently working on a fix, I will keep you updated on the progress.
Technical Details
The technical details are that the server is in the progress of reshaping the RAID array containing the server data, which is currently going slowly due to a bad RAID controller/cable which needs to be replaced. This in turn is causing all server processes which are using the array to go haywire, so I’ve had to shut down the server process for the time being. The upside is that once this process is complete, we’ll be able to better distribute server resources to specific processes as it will provide space for us to create virtual machines in. The MineQraft servers will then, instead of running bare metal on the host machine where they share resources with all other processes, be placed inside a virtual machine which is assigned more resources than other less important server processes running in other virtual machines. This should then in turn reduce lag on the server, as it will essentially give the server “priority” to access the available resources. It will also place us in a better position for future upgrades, should we plan to expand our server network to run on multiple nodes. Virtual machines will make the process of moving server data across nodes easier and will also help us reduce downtime by duplicating essential server processes on multiple nodes.
